What is Bazi?
Bazi (八字), also known as Four Pillars of Destiny, is a traditional Chinese astrological system that analyzes a person's destiny based on their birth year, month, day, and hour. Each pillar consists of a Heavenly Stem and an Earthly Branch.
The Four Pillars:
- Year Pillar (年柱): Represents ancestors, childhood (0-16 years)
- Month Pillar (月柱): Represents parents, career (17-32 years)
- Day Pillar (日柱): Represents self and spouse (33-48 years)
- Hour Pillar (时柱): Represents children, later life (49+ years)

A Bazi chart is fundamentally called the "Four Pillars" because it is constructed using the four temporal vectors of your birth: the Year, Month, Day, and Hour. Each pillar contains a top character (a Heavenly Stem) and a bottom character (an Earthly Branch), mathematically creating exactly 8 characters in total (Ba-Zi).

Year Pillar (年柱)
Ages 1-15 (Childhood)
Represents Grandparents, Ancestry, Early Childhood, your Public Persona, your Industry, and how society at large perceives you.
Month Pillar (月柱)
Ages 16-32 (Youth)
The most powerful pillar. Represents Parents, Siblings, your immediate Career Environment, social status, and your formative adult years.
Day Pillar (日柱)

Heavenly Stems (天干)
There are 10 Heavenly Stems, derived from the Five Elements divided into Yin and Yang polarities. They sit on the absolute top row of the Bazi chart. Earthly Branches (地支)
