Understanding Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana

What is SSA?

Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY) is a Government of India-backed savings scheme launched in 2015 under the "Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao" campaign. It aims to secure the financial future of a girl child.

Who can open an SSA Account?

Parents or legal guardians can open an account for a girl child below 10 years of age. A family can have maximum 2 SSA accounts (for 2 daughters). In case of twins/triplets, a third account is permitted.

Deposit & Maturity Period

Deposits can be made for 15 years from account opening. The account matures after 21 years from opening OR when the girl gets married after turning 18, whichever is earlier.

Interest Calculation

Interest is compounded annually and credited at the end of each financial year. The rate is reviewed quarterly by the government but changes are usually annual.
